Perceived characteristics of major life events

Short Description: Life events can be experienced differently by people, even if they are objectively similar. In this study, we examine how nine perceived characteristics of life events (challenge, emotional significance, external control, extraordinariness, impact, predictability, social status changes, valence, change in world views) are related to subsequent changes in psychological outcomes.

Methodological Details: Respondents were asked to name their most significant life event in the past and to indicate whether or not a set of given statements applied to it. For instance “The event had a strong impact on my life.”
